VG Acquisitions – September

Its not even September yet but I’ve had such a crazy few weeks snapping up bargains I thought best I post just a little bit early.

I will preface by saying I got my pre-order in for The Beatles : Rock Band, so that’s just over a week away now; also I have every intention on getting Halo ODST brand new first day fresh as a daisy purchase. Both of these will need serious consideration as to whether I take time off work to give them ‘true justice’.

Anyway, on to the games I have compiled over the last 3 or so weeks since posting. This is the official September entry as I suspect there won’t be any more random purchases of CAG (cheap ass games) as I approach the heavy holiday season where cash must be spared for those only truly worthy (a list you shall see in another article soon).

I’ll start with Imports. The Aussie Dollar is high again which brings importing into strong contention once more in the hunt for bargains. I visited my regular website and happened apon…

Xbox360

Red Alert 3
Halo Wars
Lego Batman

The attraction here was both Red Alert 3 & Halo Wars going on sale quite well comparable to local retailers. The first RTS games I have purchased on a console, unless you count Civ. Rev. ; which is fair enough really… ok so after that they are the first RTS games, happy? I’m not at all put off by the idea, I don’t see the glamour in acting like a PC elitist, sure you can have a preference – you can say you like one control interface better – but why should that stop you from trying different? (same with fps guys).

PSP

DJ Max Emotional Sense Black Square (Classique)

DJ Max if you are unaware is a beatmania like rhythm game for the PSP (and PC in Korea). If you have any knowledge of these sorts of games, yes it plays exactly like that. I own them all to date and had been looking to pick up Emotional Sense Black when an opportunity presented itself… and finally it had. No saving here, purchased the game at full retail. It is that good, if you have any affection for music games at all and can get passed the whole language barrier thing… the tunes are always catchy enough to get into even if your not sure what the lyrics are and the animations that accompany them are quant & stylistic to provide a very attractive final product.

In finishing up this long article of self-indulgence, finally just this night (prompted me to post) I came across a certain well established retailer’s most recent promotion sale, unfortunately encompassing only pre-owned stock but hey while it’s not my preference, it wont stop me from getting a good deal. Within the space of a few minutes I had become the (somewhat temperedly) proud owner of the following…

 Xbox360

The Simpsons Game
Burnout Paradise
FEAR
FEAR Files
Armored Core
Fatal Inertia

…and they will all be added to the collection of ever-growing, rarely-shrinking backlog as they appitimise my interest in very cheap games. Great to have if I ever feel like it, but I wont be busting my console’s disk tray out straight away.

I may provide smaller updates on the full-price holiday season front before my next Acquisitions post (some 6 weeks away), until then ;)
